Why use an independent consultant?
An independent consultant helps the student and parents get organized for a complex process. There are many college options and individual requirements that need to be addressed. An independent consultant is also the third party who is objective and professional in advice.
When is the best time to start the process?
The best time to start the process is early in high school. Some professionals recommend 8th grade when honors tracks in math and science are decided. Our recommendation is spring of freshman year or fall of sophomore year. However, Carol Gill Associates often sees students for the first time in their senior year. At that point, they need to catch up.
Which types of students do you work with?
We work with all kinds of students from those opting for the Ivies and the most selective colleges (we place students in all of them on a regular basis) and to those who have learning disabilities and need special programs. Our motto is “the best fit for each student.”
What levels of service do you offer?
We have various levels of service from a starter package to the full unlimited service. In special circumstances, we offer an hourly rate.
Which standardized tests should my child take and when?
SATs and ACTs are standard tests that we recommend. Subject tests in science, math, history and language are recommended when appropriate. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) should be taken by students whose native language is not English.
Do you offer tutoring?
We have a tutoring service called Tutoring Plus which offers one-on-one tutoring for SATs, ACT, and all academic subjects from elementary through senior year in high school.
Who will work with my child?
Our staff includes Carol Gill and her professional associates. We all work together as a team, each one bringing his or her expertise to the student. These associates have had many years of experience in college admissions not only with the college process itself, but with personal visits to campuses throughout the United States. Individual appointments with Carol Gill are always available.
